Hotel/Motel Voucher Program
The Hotel/Motel Voucher Program provides temporary emergency shelter for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or an urgent housing crisis. The program is funded through the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), which is managed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Short-term hotel or motel stays may be provided when other shelter options are unavailable, full, unsafe, or not appropriate for the household. The goal is to provide immediate safety while connecting individuals and families with housing support and longer-term resources.
Program Services May Include:
- Temporary hotel or motel placement
- Emergency shelter assistance
- Support during a housing crisis
- Case management and housing stability planning
- Coordinated Entry assessments
- Referrals to permanent housing programs
- Help obtaining identification, benefits, or community resources
- Transportation assistance when available
- Connections to mental health, substance use, medical, employment, and other community services
Who the Program Serves
The program may support adults, families, youth, veterans, seniors, individuals fleeing domestic violence or unsafe living conditions, and households with no safe housing option.
Eligibility is based on program requirements, available funding, service area, proof of homelessness or a housing crisis, and household need. Priority may be given to individuals and families with urgent safety concerns, medical needs, children, seniors, or disabilities.
Getting Started
Referrals are usually completed by an Aspire clinician or case manager using a paper referral form. The referral is sent to the Residential Coordinator, who contacts the individual and assigns a residential case manager.
The case manager then completes the needed assessments to determine eligibility, needs, and next steps.
