Community Access Services

Aspire’s Community Access Services help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities build meaningful connections in their communities. Through one-on-one and group activities, individuals are encouraged to take part in experiences that match their interests, comfort level, and personal goals.

The program also helps individuals build natural supports, relationships, and connections in everyday community settings. These supports can reduce isolation and help individuals feel more included.

Building Meaningful Community Connections

Community Access helps individuals become more active in their communities. Trained staff provide support as individuals learn how to safely and confidently take part in activities such as:

  • Shopping and visiting public places
  • Dining at restaurants and practicing social skills
  • Attending recreational, cultural, or community events
  • Visiting libraries, parks, and local organizations
  • Taking part in volunteer opportunities or group activities

These experiences help build confidence, independence, and comfort in the community.

Individual and Group Opportunities

Aspire offers both one-on-one support and group-based activities. Services are based on each individual’s interests, goals, comfort level, and support needs.

One-on-one Community Access focuses on personal goals, skill-building, natural supports, and moving through community settings more independently.

Group Community Access provides opportunities for social interaction, teamwork, shared experiences, and practicing communication skills.

Both options are designed to strengthen learning, build community connections, encourage independence, and support personal growth.

Skill Development Through Real-Life Experience

Community Access gives individuals opportunities to practice important life skills in real settings. These skills may include:

  • Communication and social interaction
  • Money management and purchasing skills
  • Safety awareness in public places
  • Decision-making and problem-solving
  • Respectful and meaningful participation in the community
  • Building and maintaining relationships

These skills can help individuals feel more confident and independent in daily life.

Promoting Natural Supports and Inclusion

A key goal of Community Access is to help individuals build natural supports. These are relationships and connections that develop through everyday life in the community.

Aspire staff work with each individual to identify strengths, interests, and opportunities for meaningful involvement. This helps support long-term connection and inclusion beyond structured services.

A Path to Greater Independence

Success in Community Access may include greater independence, stronger social connections, improved confidence, and more active participation in community life. Through real-world experiences and individualized support, Aspire helps individuals build fulfilling lives rooted in connection, engagement, and opportunity.
